Terms of Service
Last updated:
These terms explain the rules for using Piltoe athttps://piltoe.com. They are meant to be readable. They are still a legal agreement between you and the person operating Piltoe.
Acceptance of these terms
By using Piltoe, you agree to these Terms of Service and to thePrivacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the site.
Using Piltoe
Piltoe publishes free online tools such as calculators and, over time, other utilities. You may use the site for your own lawful work. You do not need an account to use the tools that are published today.
We may change, pause, or remove a tool, a page, or the whole site. We do not guarantee that any particular tool will remain available.
Permitted use
You may:
- use the tools for personal or work tasks that are lawful
- link to Piltoe pages
- share a link to a tool with other people
You may not present Piltoe’s results as if they came from a licensed professional, or as if Piltoe had inspected your project.
Prohibited use
You may not use Piltoe to:
- break the law or encourage others to do so
- attack, overload, scrape in an abusive way, or disrupt the site
- probe, bypass, or interfere with security or access controls
- copy the site’s design, branding, or content in a way that pretends to be Piltoe
- use automated means that harm the service or other visitors
- upload or transmit malware
Tool results and accuracy
Piltoe’s tools provide estimates and informational results. They are not a guarantee of a real-world outcome.
For example, the Paint Calculator can help you think about how much paint a room, wall, or ceiling might need. Coverage, surface condition, application method, and the product you buy all affect the true amount. Treat the figure as a starting point, not a promise of actual paint consumption.
Other calculators, converters, and utilities — including tools we add later — should be used in the same spirit: helpful, not certified.
No professional advice
Nothing on Piltoe is professional advice. That includes decorating, construction, engineering, financial, legal, medical, or any other regulated advice. If you need that kind of help, speak to a qualified person.
Your responsibility
You are responsible for the information you enter and for the decisions you make using a tool’s output. Check manufacturer instructions, local rules, and the real conditions of your job before you buy materials or start work.
Intellectual property
The Piltoe name, logo, site design, and the text and code we publish are owned by Piltoe or used with permission. You may not copy them to run a competing site that looks like Piltoe, or to suggest an official partnership that does not exist.
You keep whatever rights you already have in content you type into a tool. We do not claim ownership of the numbers you enter into the Paint Calculator.
Third-party services and links
The site is hosted by a third party. We may also use email, fonts, or other infrastructure provided by others. Links to other websites are for convenience. Those sites have their own terms. Piltoe is not responsible for them.
Advertising
Piltoe may display advertising in the future, including through services such as Google AdSense, to help keep the tools free. Ads are not on the site today. If advertising is added, it will be subject to the advertiser’s and the network’s terms as well as these terms. See the Privacy Policy for how that relates to data.
Availability and changes
We aim to keep Piltoe available, but downtime, errors, and unfinished pages can happen. We may update a tool’s method, labels, or results without notice when we think the change is an improvement or a fix.
Disclaimer of warranties
Piltoe is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, secure, or free of errors.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Piltoe and the person operating it are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive losses, or for lost profits, lost data, or the cost of substitute materials or services, arising from your use of the site or from reliance on a tool’s output.
Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greatest extent permitted by applicable law. Because the tools are free, that amount may be zero in some cases.
Indemnification
If your use of Piltoe causes a claim against us — for example because you used a result in a way that harmed someone else, or you used the site in a prohibited way — you agree to take responsibility for that claim, including reasonable legal costs, to the extent the law allows.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The “Last updated” date will change. Continued use of Piltoe after a change means you accept the new terms. The current version is athttps://piltoe.com/terms/.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws that apply to the person operating Piltoe, without naming a specific country here. If a particular jurisdiction needs to be stated, we will add it to this section rather than invent one.
If a part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. These terms are the agreement for using the website. They do not create a partnership or employment relationship.
