Texas Paycheck Calculator

Estimate Texas take-home pay after federal taxes, FICA, and deductions for salary or hourly pay.

How are you paid?

Payroll deductions

Enter each deduction as it appears on your paycheck. Traditional 401(k) lowers federal taxable wages; Roth 401(k) does not.

Optional W-4 and year-to-date details can make this estimate closer to a payroll system calculation.

How Texas paychecks are taxed

Texas payroll starts with gross pay: your salary divided by your payroll schedule, or your hourly rate multiplied by the hours in that paycheck. Texas has no individual state income tax, so the usual withholding items are federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, and any benefits or other deductions selected by you or your employer. Your take-home pay is what remains after those amounts. The calculator presents the normal payroll-period amount and an annualized estimate so you can compare a weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, or monthly schedule on the same terms.

Pay frequency matters. A biweekly employee normally receives 26 checks in a year, while a semimonthly employee receives 24. Both schedules can feel like “twice a month,” but the gross amount and withholding per check differ. The annual estimate should be similar when the annual pay is the same; individual paychecks do not have to be identical.

Does Texas have state income tax?

No. Texas does not impose an individual income tax, so this calculator always shows Texas income tax as $0. That does not make gross pay equal take-home pay: federal withholding, FICA, benefit elections, retirement contributions, and post-tax deductions can still reduce a paycheck. A Texas employee may still owe tax to another jurisdiction in an unusual work or residency situation, but that is outside this Texas payroll estimate.

Federal withholding

Federal income tax withholding is not simply annual income tax divided by the number of paychecks. Payroll systems use the pay-period method specified by the IRS. This calculator follows the 2026 percentage-method approach: it annualizes taxable wages, applies the filing-status schedule and W-4 adjustments, then returns the estimated withholding to the selected pay period. Step 3 credits, Step 4 other income, deductions, and extra withholding all affect the estimate.

For example, a single employee with a $75,000 annual salary paid biweekly has about $2,885 in gross pay per normal check. The calculator annualizes the payroll taxable wages, applies the standard W-4 withholding adjustment and the 2026 single schedule, then estimates the federal amount for that check. It is a withholding estimate, not a prediction of the exact tax due when a return is filed.

FICA in 2026: Social Security and Medicare

FICA is separate from federal income tax withholding. In 2026, employee Social Security withholding is 6.2% of covered wages up to the $184,500 wage base. Medicare withholding is 1.45% of covered wages with no wage base. An additional 0.9% Medicare withholding can begin when year-to-date wages with one employer exceed $200,000. The optional year-to-date wage field helps the calculator reflect a threshold crossed late in the year.

These thresholds explain why a late-year paycheck can look different even with the same salary and benefits. Once Social Security wages reach the annual wage base, the employee Social Security deduction should stop for that employer. The calculator uses the year-to-date amount only to estimate the current paycheck’s remaining Social Security wage-base room and any Additional Medicare crossing; it does not replace a payroll provider’s year-to-date records.

Salary versus hourly pay

For salary pay, enter annual salary and a pay frequency. For hourly pay, enter the hourly rate and regular hours for one pay period. Overtime is optional and is calculated from the multiplier you enter. A different number of paid hours, unpaid leave, shift differentials, commissions, or a bonus can make a real paycheck different from a normal-period estimate.

Hourly employees can use the calculator for a typical paycheck, then update regular or overtime hours when a specific period differs. Employers may pay overtime, bonuses, or retroactive pay through a separate process. Those items can be subject to different withholding choices or timing, so an actual pay statement remains the best record of what was withheld.

Traditional 401(k) versus Roth 401(k)

A traditional 401(k) contribution generally lowers federal taxable wages, but it does not reduce Social Security or Medicare wages. Roth 401(k) contributions are made after federal income tax withholding, so they reduce take-home pay but do not reduce federal taxable wages. This distinction is why two employees making the same percentage contribution can have different current paycheck amounts.

Health coverage and HSA/FSA elections can also affect payroll wages. This calculator treats the listed health and HSA/FSA deductions as reducing both federal and FICA wage bases, and treats the “other pre-tax” field as a federal-wage adjustment. Plan rules can differ, especially for disability coverage, commuter benefits, and employer-specific programs, so enter a deduction only when you know how it appears on your pay stub.

Why your paycheck might differ

This is an estimate, not a pay stub. Employers may round at different stages, use separate treatment for supplemental wages or bonuses, apply benefits on only some paychecks, and make payroll adjustments for prior periods. Your W-4, retirement-plan rules, taxable fringe benefits, court-ordered deductions, and year-to-date FICA thresholds may also matter.

Compare the result with a recent pay stub and your payroll provider if you need an exact withholding amount. Adjusting your Form W-4 is an individual tax decision; consider current IRS instructions or a qualified tax professional for advice specific to your situation.
